Twenty endangered elephants in India, rescued from cruelty and neglect, now have a new problem toface:

The elephants, some blind or unable to walk, were rescued by kind volunteers at Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Centre. They were saved from illegal captivity, wildlife trafficking, circuses and other cruelty… However, the elephants are still weak and vulnerable.Women in a nearby village decided to start knitting –

“It is important to keep our elephants protected from the bitter cold during this extreme winter, as they are weak and vulnerable having suffered so much abuse making them susceptible to ailments such as pneumonia,” Kartick Satyanarayan, founder of the centre, told theTimes of India.The sanctuary plans to rescue another 50 elephants this year. Hooray!Asian Elephants are an endangered species. Numbers have fallen by 50% and are still declining.
